Traditional classroom activities are facilitated by trained instructors who use learner-centered teaching approaches and methodologies. This type of instruction uses the classroom time to foster direct student interaction, team work and task-based activities, rather than to deliver materials or information through typical lecturing. In this context, the classroom time is more likely to be used for discussion, projects and structured exercises that emphasize the application of teaching techniques, to solve problems or work through tasks.
In addition to attending face-to- face class sessions taught by teachers in traditional settings, student are also required to complete online components of the course outside the classroom. This section requires structured independent study time guided by the online materials. The online learning material includes reading comprehension tasks, various written assignments such as graphic organizers, summaries or essays, pre- recorded lectures and video analysis that students can watch on their own time.
Students are required to observe various English classes in order to collect data about teacher characteristics and methodological issues regarding specific teaching techniques, procedures, activities, classroom interaction and instructional resources. In these observation practices, they are required to take notes, analyze information and write structured observation report that must include reflections and conclusions.
Students must put theory into practice through a specified period of language teaching. This final component of the TEFL course has been designed to provide our students with real teaching practice. In this program, students are required to participate as instructors of a 30 hour English course, supervised by a TEFL specialized instructor.
